Parish Approves Building Project

Since the parish voted on May 31 to proceed with our building project, work has already begun behind the scenes. The Parish Council and Building Committee are both very cognizant of the parish wishes in regard to renovation, expansion, the elevator and of course, finances. These principles, along with maintaining the beauty of our church and its architecture will guide the process going forward.

This past week, Father Joseph and Joan Cassidy traveled to Boston to Studio Troika to meet with our architect, Michael Samra. He is beginning his work and had some very general, broad questions which would frame his efforts to include everything we want but at the same time keeping costs to a minimum.

We will keep you up to date as this exciting time in our parish's history gets under way.

Baking Bread

We are looking for a few good bakers to join our team. Each week a member of the parish bakes the holy bread / prosphora / khurban, which is used for the Divine Litury. We have recipes, seals and veteran bakers who will show you how it works. Please see Father Joseph or Emily Pappas.

Summer Just Started

The heat and humidity are moving our way, but already we have begun plans for a special fall in Norwood. On the docket is an Oldies Night -- mark your calendars for Saturday, October 21st. Details about this event and more will be headed your way soon.

SALAD DRESSING SALES

Have you run out of salad dressing and marinade? It is the perfect blend for your homemade salad or to rub on shrimp and chicken before your grill. If you have run out you can pick up a jar at church on Sunday mornings. Or you may see our team of ladies selling Sittee's Savory Kitchen Salad Dressing at Farmer's Markets in the area. Just yesterday they were in Walpole and Mansfield.

FOR THE VETERANS

We had six boxes of assorted items, plus we bought 15 gift cards to Dunkin Donuts. Ted Mulvehill (Veterans officer for the Town of Norwood) picked up the boxes and cards from us at Saint George. He had just spoken to a friend from Norwood who is stationed in Alaska and had who had mentioned that Dunkies just opened up there - so you know she will dispense cards. Also, the other items are going to local soldiers from a company called "Heartiller" from Norwood. So very appreciated, A blessed Thank you!

FROM THE CATHEDRAL: 2017 PLC

The Parish Life Conference for the Diocese will take place at the Cathedral in Worcester on June 17th and the 23-25th. Schedules, registration and sponsorship information are available in the parish hall and on line: http://www.antiochianevents. This means it is time to think about the Bible Bowl and Oratorical festival. For the first time this year churches can have their adult, teen and now, preteen team. The topic is the Gospel of Saint Mark. Form a team and let Father know. And check out the great online study guide at https://orthodoxyouth.org/

BUILDING RENOVATION AND EXPANSION

In answer to requests from those at the annual meeting, a new flyer has been printed showing an overview of the project, its costs and funding. These were put in the mail this past week and an additional copy is enclosed with this bulletin so that you may pass it on to family and friends who are interested in our building campaign. Information about Designated Donations can be found in the parish hall.

New Building Renovation Design

The Parish Council and Building Committee are pleased to share the updated sketches for our renovation and expansion project.

We are grateful for our generous donors. We are now offering everyone the opportunity to contribute a dedicated donation. If you and your family (or several) families are moved to dedicate a portion of this project in honor or memory of a loved one, please click here for the details.

Your prayers and support are much appreciated.

Sittee's Savory Kitchen

Need a stocking stuffer or hostess gift this season? Give our parish's salad dressing and marinade: Jars and refills are available at coffee hour and on line at SitteesSavoryKitchen.com What a great stocking stuffer! Proceeds are all going to our building fund.

The Mission Statement (from the lid of the jar):
Sittee is "my grandmother" - one of countless women who, as the backbone of our community, used their culinary talents to help build and sustain our church. Sittee's Savory Kitchen honors these beloved women and their legacy by giving all proceeds to the Building Fund.

Conference & Convention

The 2017 PLC and Convention are less than a year away: In New England, the Parish Life Conference will be June 23-24.

The Archdiocese Convention is July 23-30 in Miami and hotel registration is open. The Convention website is www.AC2017Miami.org.

The Convention and Conference Theme for 2017 will be: My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations. (Mark11:17) That is also the theme for the Oratorical Festival.

The Bible Bowl book is Saint Mark.
